Doring Lloyd in Rick’s Room
Energy Work for Success
In this episode of Rick’s Room, host Rick Grant reconnects with longtime friend and innovator Doring Lloyd to explore her inspiring career transition from financial services and fintech into holistic wellness.
After decades in sales and marketing leadership, Doring followed a calling that began years ago—pursuing formal training in reflexology to help people find balance, harmony, and healing through hands-on techniques. She shares the personal story that sparked her journey, her education and certification process, and the results she’s already seeing with clients suffering from conditions like diabetes and chronic pain.
Together, Rick and Doring discuss the growing role of holistic health in corporate and community settings, the opportunities she sees for bringing reflexology into conferences and employee wellness programs, and her vision for building her new company, Hand to Heel. It’s a story about listening to your inner voice, embracing reinvention, and finding new ways to make an impact.
Show Highlights:
Rick Grant (Host):
Hi, and welcome back to Rick’s Room. This is the show where we imagine we’re at the end of a busy conference day—finally getting to sit down in a comfortable spot and catch up with someone we’ve been wanting to talk to. Today, I’m thrilled to be joined by my good friend, Doring Lloyd. Thanks for being here, Doring.
Doring Lloyd (Guest):
Thank you, Rick. It’s great to be here.
Rick:
We won’t say how many years it’s been since we first met, but it’s been a while. I’ve always admired how you’re constantly working on something new and innovative. What are you focused on now?
Doring:
I recently graduated from reflexology school. I decided I wanted to give back in a way that literally touches people—working with their feet and hands to make a difference in their health and wellbeing.
Rick:
That’s amazing. I’ve known you in sales and marketing roles across several companies. How did reflexology become your path?
Doring:
It started back in 1997 when I was visiting my aunt in Florida. She had Alzheimer’s, and when I worked on her feet with pressure, she relaxed completely. Later, I kept doing it for my husband, and I realized this was something I wanted to pursue seriously. Reflexology gives me a way to help people achieve balance, harmony, and homeostasis in their lives.
Rick:
So, you went through training. What does reflexology involve?
Doring:
Reflexology maps pressure points on the feet, hands, and ears to different systems in the body—liver, kidneys, stomach, brain, and more. By using specific hand and finger techniques, I stimulate these reflexes to encourage the body to function as it’s designed. I’m currently trained in foot and hand reflexology and will expand to face and ear later this year.
Rick:
What results have you seen so far?
Doring:
One client, a diabetic, was waking up multiple times a night to use the bathroom. After sessions, he was down to once a night. When the issue resurfaced, he came back to me because it had made such a difference. I’ve also worked with women experiencing menstrual pain or knee problems, and reflexology helped reduce or even eliminate their discomfort.
Rick:
How did you know this was the right path for you?
Doring:
It was really a calling from God, an inner voice I chose to follow. I even wrote a blog about leaving financial services to embrace holistic wellness. I knew this was my next journey.
Rick:
Leaving a successful career in an industry where you had deep connections must have been tough. I applaud you for listening to that inner call. Now, I’ve seen reflexology offered at conferences in small chair setups. Is that something you envision?
Doring:
Yes, definitely. Reflexology isn’t massage—we don’t work on muscles, but reflexes. It’s closer to acupressure. I can set up at conferences, work on people’s feet or hands for 15–20 minutes, and give them a break during the day. I recently did this in front of a storefront on Labor Day—people loved it.
Rick:
I can imagine. After walking the conference floor all day, my feet would welcome that! Where are you now in your journey?
Doring:
I’m preparing for the national reflexology exam, managed by the ARCB. I’ve been reviewing anatomy and physiology to boost my confidence. At the same time, I’m building my business, Hand to Heel, and already working with clients. My vision is to bring reflexology into corporate events, employee wellness programs, and community spaces—giving people a therapeutic, restorative experience.
Rick:
That sounds like a wonderful way to add value. Doring, thank you for joining me today and sharing your journey. I look forward to seeing how Hand to Heel grows and having you back on the show.
Doring:
Thank you, Rick. I’ve loved this time with you.
Rick:
Until next time.
