Getting the Interview Done Right
We realized early on that the best way to prepare our clients for media interviews was to subject them to as many as possible. The easiest format for that was the podcast.
Many years ago, we created the Executive Insights podcast. We let our clients talk to us about an important issue of their choice, and then edited their responses to fit into a 5-minute show. The interviewer was edited out.
The show was quite successful and was eventually purchased by a larger PR firm and turned into a show for a large industry trade show. They deviated from the format, and the show was eventually canceled.
That wasn’t a bad thing. While the podcast taught our executives how to create better soundbites, the audience was evolving, and we had to change with it.
Today, we produce the Strategic Targeting podcast. Guests get to answer four key questions about an issue they consider a strategic priority. It’s a much better practice tool for interviews with the media.
