Tech Adoption via Process Optimization
We have long known that technology, in and of itself, cannot be a solution for business problems. The disconnect that can render even the most innovative technology useless is the adoption problem.
Business managers can bring technology to bear on a problem, but only the firm’s employees can put it to work. Getting workers to adopt new technologies has been surprisingly difficult.
When I was editing Mortgage Technology magazine, one of the questions we always asked experts was: Who is using this technology? Are their employees using it?
Employees, it turns out, aren’t focused on tools. They focus on the process. This is how they are training, how they complete their work, and how they know they are succeeding.
If you want technology adoption, the place to focus in the process.
When it comes to process change and optimization, Six Sigma has been a trusted tool for decades. I asked Six Sigma Black Belt Michael Harris how this tool is being used today to help companies optimize their processes.
In response, he wrote an excellent post, which is available now on his blog. You can also find his thought leadership on his LinkedIn page.
I found his comments enlightening. Check Mike’s work out and let me know what you think.
